The collaboration with the Switzerland-based holiday airline, part of SWISS since November 2008, is expanding to the cargo business: in addition to SWISS passengers - who can already book individual seats to all destinations served by Edelweiss Air – the network will be soon accessible to Swiss WorldCargo’s customers too.
According to the agreement, which was signed in Zurich on 3 August, with the forthcoming winter timetable Swiss WorldCargo will market the belly capacity of Edelweiss Air’s fleet to and from the following long-haul destinations:
Africa
- Mombasa, Kenya (MBA)
- Nairobi, Kenya (NBO) (complementing the existing SWISS flight)
Central America
- Cancun, Mexico (CUN)
- Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ)
- Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic (POP)
- Santo Domingo (SDQ), Dominican Republic (truck service via PUJ or POP)
Indian Sub-Continent
- Goa, India (GOI)
- Male, Maldives (MLE)
*Until further notice, the above destinations are open for Swiss General Cargo and Swiss X-Presso products only.
"This is an exciting and mutually beneficial agreement. Our industry is currently facing unprecedented challenges and many competitors are cancelling destinations in their network. Thanks to the cooperation with Edelweiss Air, we are able to expand our offer. Most of the new markets served are small, but Swiss WorldCargo has an established reputation for focusing effectively also on niches. The Edelweiss Air brand is well established in the Swiss market, and the network will offer Swiss WorldCargo’s customers some attractive new business opportunities,” says Oliver Evans, Chief Cargo Officer at SWISS, commenting on the agreement.
“With its excellent reputation and extensive experience at the highest of levels in marketing and sales of specialised services, Swiss WorldCargo is the perfect partner for our cargo needs,“ says Christian Gfeller, Deputy CEO/Head of Ground Operations Edelweiss Air.
