At Swiss WorldCargo, the cargo division of Swiss International Air Lines, the winter season brings attractive network enhancements and additional capacities: the launch of new intercontinental services from Zurich, additional frequencies to existing routes and a wide range of new European connections from Geneva.
Zurich-Beijing
With the Winter Timetable 2011-12, Swiss WorldCargo is launching a new daily non-stop flight between Zurich and Beijing commencing on 11 February 2012. Beijing is the third destination in China served by SWISS, in addition to Hong Kong and Shanghai.
Zurich-Newark
The Zurich-Newark route will no longer be operated by a leased all business-class Boeing 737, with no cargo capacity: From 31 March 2012, SWISS will use its own long-haul aircraft on the route with substantial cargo capacity. The operation will also be expanded to daily service.
Zurich-London Heathrow / Zurich-Sofia
As of 30 October, a seventh daily frequency to London Heathrow will also be added. Service to Sofia, on the other hand, will be discontinued for economic reason.
Edelweiss Air: Zurich-Cape Town / Zurich-Colombo
Tanks to the partnership with Edelweiss Air, additional capacity will be available to South Africa and Sri Lanka: twice-weekly direct services Zurich-Cape Town and Zurich-Colombo will commence at the end of October.
Service from Geneva expanded
SWISS’ market position in Geneva will be strengthened, too: The service between Geneva and London City will be raised from four to five daily flights with the start of the winter schedules on 31 October.
Services on the current Geneva-Budapest route will be withdrawn from the same date, though shipments from Geneva are still able to reach Hungary’s capital with a choice of three connections a day via SWISS’s Zurich hub.
From 16 December, a second daily flight will be added to the Geneva-Moscow route and, last but not least, on 10 February 2012, Nice will join the Geneva-based network. The new flights will be operated using Airbus A319 equipment: Service will initially consist of two daily flights, rising to a thrice-daily operation in the 2012 summer schedules. On the same date, a third daily frequency will be added to the Geneva-Madrid route, too.
