Today, not only the business opportunities are global – the challenges are, too. Our industry is increasingly affected by developments that reach beyond state boundaries or even entire continents. Science coined these developments “megatrends” because they are more or less omnipresent, global in nature and affect many different aspects of the economy and our society as a whole.
Three of these megatrends in particular define the future playing field of air cargo:
Security is of course one of the toughest challenge for any logistic endeavour in this decade and will continue to leave its mark on many aspects of our work in terms of regulations as well as technology and processes.
Environment may well be the biggest megatrend of them all and its impact on the way cargo will be operating in the future can hardly be overestimated.
Fuel-, emission- and noise-reduction are at the heart of the challenge. But actually all levels of the supply chain have the potential to make air cargo greener, including aspects like IT and software, which leads to the third megatrend:
e-Freight, which is not only a central part of the answer to the two other megatrends but also the key to a cargo industry truly on eye-level with the 21st century.
Swiss WorldCargo is working hard to meet the megatrends and we created this page to keep you updated, to share our thoughts and ideas with you and to chart our progress.
Because we believe that we can only care for your cargo every day and shipment by shipment if we never loose sight of the bigger picture, the megatrends with all the challenges they pose – and the opportunities that come with them.
